At MMS, a song often starts with something we want to say: a little more confidence, a declaration of love, or permission to let go. The next question is what that thought should sound like. A sentence on a page and a line you want to sing are different things. We look for the place where the words and the music feel right together.
Begin with a thought worth singing
An intention can be simple: “I choose me.” Or it can start as a longer story that needs a little room. We look for words that feel personal enough to mean something and clear enough to carry in a chorus. You do not have to believe every lyric as a statement of fact. Sometimes a song gives you a way to try a thought on.
Let the rhythm give it a shape
The same words can sound tender, playful or defiant depending on their rhythm and delivery. That is a musical choice we explore: which version makes you want to move, which one asks you to listen, and which one feels forced?
Repetition is part of the song
A repeated line gives you something to return to. Our aim is a chorus you enjoy hearing again, with enough space around it for the music to breathe. Repetition is a songwriting choice here; it is not a promise that a lyric will change your life.
A personal way to listen
Choose a song because you like how it sounds. Then notice whether a line stays with you. You might sing it in the car, carry it into a walk, or simply enjoy the track without looking for a lesson. All of those are ways into the music.
That is the idea behind Intention Groove at MMS: a thought you connect with, carried by a song you want to play again.
